Joe Sanders Elected Council President; Members Discuss SRF Claims Review Process

Member Joe Sanders was elected Council President for 2026 by unanimous ballot at the Jan. 5 Crown Point Common Council meeting after a nomination by Member Scott Evorik and a second by Member Laura Sauerman.
Member Scott Evorik, who nominated Sanders, praised his service over the previous two years and said Sanders had "picked up the requirements of the position quickly." Member Chad Jeffries was nominated to continue as president but respectfully declined, citing a preference for a two-year rotation. Nominations were closed and a unanimous ballot was cast; the motion to elect Sanders passed 7-0.
The council also approved a package of Uniform Conflict of Interest Disclosure Statements collectively on a 7-0 voice vote after Mayor Peter D. Land noted several forms were submitted and that a few more might follow at future meetings.
During reports and miscellaneous matters, Member Scott Evorik asked that SRF claims and distributions be provided to all council members in advance for review before monthly votes. Member Zack Bryan described the process he has used for several years to categorize, review, and audit expenditures; the exchange ended without a formal change to the process. The council set its next regular meeting for Monday, Feb. 2, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. and adjourned at 6:48 p.m.
