The Crown Point Common Council voted unanimously Jan. 5 to rezone 12410 Marshall St. from R-1 residential to OS-1 office-services, clearing the way for the Crown Point Community Foundation to pursue a purchase agreement and build a new office.
Foundation board member Jeff Ban told the council the nonprofit, founded in 1990, has outgrown its current downtown office and is seeking a site better suited to its operations. Planning Administrator Josh Watson read the staff report to the council; no members recorded opposition during the discussion. "The site plan and renderings show how the building and parking will fit within the corridor," members said in support during the exchange.
The council suspended its rules to consider the item on first reading and then adopted Ordinance No. 2026-01-02 by roll call vote. Ayes: Members Scott Evorik, Zack Bryan, Andrew Kyres, Bob Clemons, Laura Sauerman, Joe Sanders, and Chad Jeffries. Nays: None. Motion passed 7-0.
The ordinance approval allows the rezoning to take effect per normal municipal processes; council members noted the project appeared consistent with surrounding land uses and that the YMCA parcel directly west was identified in discussion as related property. Planning staff will process required permitting and any ensuing site-plan reviews.
The council did not record any amendments to the ordinance during the meeting. The next procedural steps will be handled through planning staff and any required permit applications.
