The North Mankato City Council on Oct. 6 adopted a new traffic‑calming policy intended to provide a consistent, objective process for addressing neighborhood traffic concerns.
City Planner Lassonde introduced Intern Connielia Mensah, who said the application must include location details and five verifiable resident signatures from the affected street. Mensah explained that staff will collect and analyze data; requests that do not meet thresholds will be declined, while eligible requests can move forward to the Traffic & Safety Committee for recommendations to the council. Pilot measures will precede any permanent installation, and permanent changes require agreement by 51% of the neighborhood. Projects with an estimated cost greater than $25,000 may be subject to special assessments.
Mensah also said the City will rely on state statutes for e‑bike regulation and focus on an education campaign to promote safe riding. Council Member Peterson moved to adopt Res. No. 92‑25; Council Member Oachs seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
