Covington Mayor: $750,000 READI award reduces gap on wastewater plant; council votes to solicit loan bids

Councilmember Smith asked whether the borrowing decision would include drilling for a new well; Mayor Crain said it would not, noting the Water Department has funds to pay for the well separately. No formal borrowing instrument was approved at the meeting; the council approved only the solicitation of bids.
The board also discussed timing for related public works work, including sidewalk projects to be put into the next Community Crossings bid package. The council did not set a timeline for awarding any loan; next steps are to receive and evaluate bids and return to the council for any final financing approval.
The council adjourned with the solicitation vote recorded as 5-0 in favor of taking bids to finance the wastewater project.
