Madelia council approves $58,374.20 in bills, appoints commissioners and awards local contracts

The check register included payments to local vendors and service providers, with notable items including a $18,000 payment to Total Lawn Care & Landscape and $500 to the Madelia Fire Department.
In appointments, the council approved the application of Dave Cerny to the Light Plant Commission for a three‑year term covering 2025–2027 (motion by Glen Christensen; second Mark Slater). The appointment passed with all five council members voting in favor.
The council also moved to appoint Council member Phyllis Schickling to the Planning Commission for a four‑year term (2025–2028). The motion, made by Glen Christensen and seconded by Mark Slater, passed; voting recorded Phyllis Schickling as abstaining and the other four members voting yes.
For city contracts, the council approved awarding the 2025 building inspector contract to Harry Jenness. The employment arrangement is described as a part‑time engagement for approximately 2–4 hours per week; the motion passed unanimously. The council separately awarded a contract to Total Lawn Care for sidewalk snow removal, requiring sidewalks not shoveled to be cleared within 24 hours after a major snowfall event; that motion also passed unanimously.
The council approved assigning 25 Main as an additional address to Parcel ID 17.326.0650, listed as Hope and Faith, by a motion from Mark Slater seconded by Phyllis Schickling. The Golf Commission remains unfilled because no applications were received.
With no further business, the council unanimously approved a motion to adjourn. The meeting minutes were typed by City Administrator Chris Fischer, and the council noted that meeting video is available for review at Madelia City Hall.
