Hanover Area School District board rescinds $10 per‑capita tax, approves budget with no tax increase

The Board of Education of the Hanover Area School District voted June 23 to approve a package of financial items that included rescinding a longstanding $10 per‑capita tax and adopting a budget the board said carries no tax increase for the seventh year.

Board member Mr. McDermott thanked district administrators and said the board approved a resolution to receive the section 679 per‑capita tax "effective 7/1/2026" and rescind it for those who had been paying, calling the change effectively revenue neutral for taxpayers who had been assessed the fee. "It's a $10 per capita tax that's been rescinded," he said, and he thanked administrators Keith, Myra and Mr. Mulroy for their work on the budget.

The action was taken as part of a roll‑call vote on financial items 1 through 14. A board member raised a technical correction during discussion about inconsistent date references in item 4; the chair confirmed that administrative edits would be made. Two board members recorded 'no' votes on specific items (items 7 and 14) citing differences in vendor quotes and stock or pricing concerns, but the overall motion carrying the financial package passed.
