Project manager gives timeline for Waterfront Park opening; paid-parking ordinance reading scheduled

Lehi Acromoff, the city’s project manager, told the Youth Advisory Council that the Waterfront Park construction is approaching completion: substantial completion is planned for Feb. 15, contractors are expected to finish and hand over on or about March 17, and the city is eyeing an early-April weekend for a full opening following a soft opening and post-construction preparations. “The substantial completion, which means most of the functions are finished, is planned for February 15,” Acromoff said, and he emphasized the schedule is tentative and subject to weather and other factors.
Deputy City Manager Jeremiah Glisson said the city will also pursue other waterfront work in 2026, including an interior restoration phase for the lighthouse. He noted the paid-parking ordinance for the downtown area is scheduled for a reading on Jan. 6, adding that pending litigation affecting paid parking could delay formal implementation. “Next ordinance for the paid parking program is scheduled to be read January 6,” Glisson said; he cautioned that legal issues may change the timeline.
Council members asked clarifying questions about amenities and facilities at the park, and Acromoff walked through planned amenities, restroom locations and the contractor turnover process. No formal actions or votes were taken at the meeting about these projects; staff said they will return with updates as schedules firm up.
