At the March 3 New Germany City Council meeting staff recommended moving forward with a Maguire water tower maintenance contract and reported routine public-works items and clerk updates.
Under Water and Sewer, staff indicated a recommendation to proceed with the Maguire water tower maintenance contract; the minutes record direction to move forward but do not record a formal motion or vote for that contract in the text. Public Works staff member Jim Borka described a backup plan for large snow accumulations.
Michelle Swanson, an Xcel Energy representative, reported that tree trimming had occurred; after follow-up it was clarified that the trees trimmed were on State Avenue (County Road 33), not Camden, indicating a location miscommunication recorded in the minutes.
City Clerk Twyla Menth reported outreach to the CDA apartment about an overflowing dumpster and debris (contacted in February with no change reported), a 2026 solid waste grant for $4,500, and online payments totaling $24,746.68 between Jan. 1 and Feb. 19, 2026. The clerk also noted a March 5 safety meeting in Waconia and that the Fire Department will reserve the hall Oct. 3, 2026 for its 125th celebration. The minutes state that preliminary and final plat procedures were discussed but do not include more detailed plans or timelines.
Council discussed money market account requirements under Minnesota statute (FDIC coverage and bonding twice the amount of funds) and directed staff to contact Ehlers Investment and invite them to a future meeting for guidance. No formal vote on the Maguire contract or money market action is recorded in the minutes.
The meeting adjourned at 7:41 PM.
