The New Germany City Council on Feb. 3 unanimously approved a Ducks Unlimited LG220 exempt-permit application for bingo and raffles at Fat Boyz and adopted a resolution recognizing a $34,092.56 year-end surplus in the fire department budget.
The meeting, called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Mayor Shirley Jaeger, also approved placement of Mayer New Germany Lions signage below the city sign and authorized $25,000 of additional sewer‑backup insurance at a cost of $481 per year. Council members present were Mayor Shirley Jaeger and council members Paul Roepke, Lorn Herrmann, Thomas Mielke and Kevin Grove; Chris Barlau attended for public works and fire-department matters. The clerk was absent.
Why it matters: the town approved a mix of routine permits, a budget housekeeping resolution and an insurance purchase intended to reduce financial exposure from sewer backups. The surplus recognized for the fire department may affect year-end accounting and future budget planning.

- Purchase of additional sewer-backup insurance: $25,000 coverage at $481 per year. Motion by Paul Roepke; second by Lorn Herrmann. Outcome: carried 5-0.
The meeting concluded with routine department updates: the fire department noted logistics for an October hall event; public works reported winter-parking citations and an equipment order for two red OSHA fuel cans with 5/8" hoses. The council adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
Next steps: minutes indicate the absent clerk will review items at the next meeting; no dates for follow-up were specified in the minutes.
