New Germany adopts 2026 levy; tax rate falls 2.6%

Ehlers reported the net levy for taxpayers decreased by $138 compared with 2025, which the firm characterized as a 2.60% reduction in the tax rate.
Council Member Kevin Grove moved to approve Resolution 2025-15, which adopts the 2026 levy; Council Member Paul Roepke seconded the motion. The council approved the resolution on a 5-0 vote. The public hearing was then closed (motion by Thomas Mielke, second by Kevin Grove; carried 5-0).
Why it matters: The adopted levy and lower tax rate set the amount of property-tax revenue the city will collect in 2026 and frame budget planning for municipal services and capital projects. The presentation noted the levy is unchanged from the preliminary figure set in August; the formal adoption makes the figure final for the coming year.
The council did not record additional amendments or alternate levy scenarios during the hearing. Ehlers and city staff will proceed with the administrative steps necessary to finalize levy-related paperwork and notices.
