Fort Oglethorpe awards $4.53 million contract to replace Battlefield Parkway waterline

The Fort Oglethorpe City Council voted to award a two-phase contract for the Battlefield Parkway waterline replacement to UWS Incorporated, the lowest responsible bidder, in the amount of $4,531,387.68.
Miss Hume explained the project is intended to improve water service for households and businesses along Battlefield Parkway by installing approximately 5,200 linear feet of 8-inch ductile-iron pipe in phase one and replacing about 2,200 linear feet of existing 8-inch PVC in phase two. Four bids were received and UWS Incorporated submitted the lowest responsible bid for both phases.
"The lowest responsible bid was received from UWS Incorporated in the amount of $4,531,387.68 for the two phases," Miss Hume said. She told the council the work will be phased to limit outage durations and that the old lines will not be turned off until new lines are connected; staff said the city will hold town-hall meetings when the contractor finalizes the project schedule so residents and business owners can plan for short, rolling service interruptions.
Council approved the award; the project will be paid from the water and sewer fund and city staff will coordinate public notices and construction phasing with the contractor.
