Avon police swear in two new officers during council meeting

Avon — Two new officers were sworn in at the Avon Town Council meeting on June 25, the town’s police chief announced, with Superior Court 2 Judge Rhett Stewart administering the oaths.

Chief (Avon Police Department) introduced Adam Sajak and an officer introduced as Jacob Redmond and read brief biographies for each. The chief said Sajak recently left for the academy and that the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy granted special permission for him to attend the swearing-in. The chief also noted Sajak’s prior service with the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office and that he served in the U.S. Navy as a gunner’s mate.

The chief said Jacob (introduced in the introduction as Redmond) has served in the U.S. Army and the Indiana Army National Guard and described his education and awards. The recording of the oath later reflects the sworn name as “Jacob Reban”; the transcript therefore contains two different last-name renderings for the second officer.

Judge Rhett Stewart addressed the new officers before administering the oath, urging them to treat people with "respect and dignity" and to "come home safe at the end of the day." After the oaths were administered, council and staff congratulated the officers.

The council also voted earlier in the meeting to postpone an employee-recognition item for Lieutenant Hawk, moving that recognition to a later date because the lieutenant is on vacation. That agenda amendment passed on roll call.

The swearing-in was ceremonial; no hiring or budgetary details beyond the officers’ prior employers and training were discussed on the record. The Avon Police Department and the town did not provide additional personnel records or salary information during the meeting.
