New Glarus board approves adding public library bus stop, accepts transportation report

Travis, who led the budget committee update, said the committee supports consideration of a transfer of $237,000 in transportation aid into fund 46 and will bring a formal recommendation back to the full board for action. "It is a pretty substantial amount," he said, noting the committee wanted the full board to review the transfer because of its size.
Board members also received the annual transportation report — which summarizes how many students rode and the distances traveled and which the district submits to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI). Travis moved to approve the report; Heather seconded and the motion passed with a recorded tally of 7–0.
On the library stop, Dr. Theer explained the facilities committee had recommended adding the new public library in addition to the existing Village Hall stop. The change requires county sheriff approval and a submission to DPI before it takes effect. The board voted to carry the committee recommendation; the motion carried by voice vote 7–0.
The board had inspected a recently constructed bus barn earlier in the evening and thanked the transportation staff for their work. No formal business occurred during the site visit. The board will be presented a formal proposal if staff proceeds with the suggested transfer of transportation aid to fund 46.
Next steps: staff will pursue required approvals for the library stop (county sheriff and DPI) and will bring any budget-transfer proposals to a future meeting for a formal motion and vote.
