The Lincoln Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution congratulating Alyssa Deal, principal of Scott Middle School, for being named the 2025–26 Region 1 Outstanding New Principal of the Year by the Nebraska State Association of Secondary School Principals.
The resolution, read aloud during the meeting, lists several "whereas" clauses praising Deal’s leadership, noting that she "leads with professionalism, compassion, and a student-centered mindset" and that she is "valued, respected, and admired" across Lincoln Public Schools and the state. The document states the Board "does hereby congratulate Alyssa Deal" for receiving the Region 1 Outstanding New Principal of the Year Award.
Alyssa Deal addressed the Board, thanking the Lincoln Public Schools Board of Education and the Nebraska State Association of Secondary School Principals for the recognition. She said she has worked in Lincoln Public Schools since 2009 and credited the district’s leadership programs and mentorship for helping her grow. "Lincoln Public Schools does an exceptional job of providing support for both new and veteran administrators," Deal said, adding that the LPS Future Leader Cadre and Leadership LPS Cadre helped her learn about the district and prepare for leadership roles.

Mrs. Krivolavek moved to approve the honor; another member seconded the motion. Laura, who was asked to call the roll, recorded votes of "Yes" from Ms. Mumgaard, Dr. Bronner, Ms. Bayer, Mr. Goodwin, Mrs. Krivolavek, and Mr. Shrivastav. The motion passed.
The meeting then moved on to the next agenda item, introducing item 6.2 regarding the Nebraska School Nurses Association.
