The council reviewed an application for a retail package alcohol license for a new convenience-market franchise, Street Corner Urban Market, in the Market Street area.
Proposed manager Kareem Miller told council the business will offer a hybrid convenience/healthy-food model and confirmed staff training and an ID-scanning requirement at point of sale that prevents alcohol sales without a scanned valid ID. "We also have a scan ID... So in our point of sale system, you cannot sell alcohol, tobacco without scanning the ID," Miller said. He added he had disabled any software override for age verification to reduce the risk of underage sales. Miller said the store planned a soft open on Saturday and that required fees had been paid to finance.
Council members asked about training and opening timing; staff agreed to take final action on the license at the April 6 meeting. Miller invited council to the soft opening and said a later grand opening is planned.
