New Canaan awards three-year transfer-station hauling contract to All American Waste

The New Canaan Board of Selectmen voted unanimously June 23 to enter a three-year contract with All American Waste to haul and dispose of the town’s municipal solid waste from the New Canaan Transfer Station beginning July 1, 2026.
Town staff explained that the bid solicitation for FY27–29 produced two proposals and that All American submitted the low overall bid. The board was presented with an estimated FY27 price of $110 per ton, which staff projected would amount to $715,000 for year one; the proposal lists year-two at $112 per ton ($728,000) and year-three at $114 per ton ($741,000), for a three-year total of $2,184,000 based on the estimated tonnage used in the solicitation.
DPW staff said the solicitation used an estimated annual quantity of 6,500 tons (reduced from earlier estimates after reviewing recent station volumes). The board asked whether the contract carried a minimum tonnage requirement; staff said the contract is based on estimated volumes and does not obligate the town to a minimum or maximum tonnage. The board also noted Enviro had submitted a bid (approximately $115/ton) and that competitive responses had preserved value for the town.
The board made the motion to approve the contract, and the vote was unanimous. The contract was authorized to begin July 1, 2026, under the terms presented; staff said they will proceed with final contract execution and notice to the bidders.
