New Canaan honors two lifeguards after vehicle crashed into pool area

The proclamation said Quill and Durso "took decisive action to assess the situation, assist those in need, secure the area and help ensure the safety" of pool users during a rapidly evolving emergency. Carlson told the board the town extended its "sincere gratitude and appreciation for their exemplary conduct." The board and several staff applauded and posed for photographs with the honorees.
Board members and staff described the response as quick and well trained. "We are really blessed here that no one was hurt," one member said during the recognition, thanking the lifeguards for acting without regard for their own safety. The town noted that the Parks and Recreation Department credited the two employees for helping protect public safety.
The presentation concluded with the board asking staff to record the lifeguards' names correctly for the town record and to provide signed proclamations for the honorees. No vote or further action was required; the meeting moved on to departmental business.
