Hewitt council approves staff purchase, discusses state flag and leaves chicken ordinance unchanged

At its April 14 meeting the Hewitt City Council approved a motion permitting Clerk Kern to purchase a rain barrel; the motion was moved by Council member T. Gruenberg and seconded by Council member H. Knutson, and the minutes record that "all were in favor" and the motion carried.
The minutes state that Kern will be out of the office from April 27 through, tentatively, May 11, 2026, for medical reasons; the council suggested posting notice that office hours may be sporadic during that period.
The council also recorded that it held a roll-call vote to decide whether to fly the new state flag or keep the old one. The minutes note that the city does not currently fly a state flag and that only the national flag is flown; the record does not include the vote tally or final outcome of the roll-call vote.
On a separate matter, the minutes say no one appeared to discuss a reported chicken issue, so the council recorded that no discussion was required and the current chicken ordinance remains in effect. The council noted as old business that the city’s new website is live. The meeting was adjourned at 7:35 p.m. on a motion by Mayor G. Bartels, seconded by J.
