Underwood council approves mural plaque and temporary sewer billing adjustment for local concrete business

The Underwood City Council on Sept. 17 approved two community-focused items: a plaque for the Hometown Pride Mural and a temporary sewer billing adjustment for a local seasonal concrete business.
Council approved Friends of Underwood’s request to place a plaque for the Hometown Pride Mural on the west exterior side of the Fire Station, pending Fire Department approval. Kristen Bladt conveyed that Friends of Underwood will hold a dedication ceremony at the mural on Sept. 29 at 4 p.m. The group will provide a layout for the Christmas display lighting by Nov. 1 so public works staff can install it before Thanksgiving weekend.
The council also discussed Feedlot Service Company, operated by Vicki Roane, which moved its seasonal concrete business to Underwood in 2024. The council directed Roane to contact Regional Water to discuss a second water meter to account for seasonal concrete water usage; the council approved a balance adjustment for sewer usage for July and August 2024 to 20,000 gallons for sewer calculation. The council noted the September read will be adjusted if an acceptable resolution with Regional Water is not reached beforehand (motion by Pingel, second Madsen).
Both actions carried on unanimous votes. The mural plaque approval is contingent on Fire Department sign-off; the sewer adjustment is a one-time billing calculation change pending resolution on metering.
