Underwood sewer upgrade awaiting electrical plans; construction permit next step

The Underwood City Council received an update Sept. 17 on the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) upgrade: the project is awaiting completion and return of the electrical component from the engineer before the city can submit a construction permit application to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
The Sewer Committee reported there is no other change to the project status. City staff indicated that once the electrical component is provided and incorporated into engineering plans, a construction permit application will be filed with the Iowa DNR.
Council and staff also reported grant activity related to sewer upgrades: a notification of intent was approved and a grant application was submitted to Iowa West, and the city is working with Iowa Finance Authority on a WTFAP (Wastewater Funding Assistance Program) grant application. The clerk said these grant efforts continue alongside the engineer’s completion of outstanding components.
No formal motions altering the project scope were made at the meeting; council was updated and directed to continue coordination with the engineer and grant partners.
Next steps are for the engineering firm to supply the electrical specifications and for the city to file the construction permit and continue grant pursuit.
