The Verona Township Council approved two ordinances on second reading Tuesday and moved several consent items.
Ordinance 2026‑25, creating chapter 168 to prohibit burning dangerous material, garbage and vegetation, passed on a 4–0 roll call with Councilwoman McGrath, Councilman Roman, Deputy Mayor Mackoy and Mayor Tambbor voting yes. There were no public comments during the ordinance hearing.
Ordinance 2026‑26 authorizes appropriating $390,000 for acquisition of a rescue squad ambulance, with $371,000 financed by bond or notes. The deputy mayor noted an ethical conflict that would normally preclude his vote but said he would cast a ballot under the doctrine of necessity because the capital ordinance requires four affirmative votes; the ordinance passed 4–0.
On the consent agenda, council approved multiple routine resolutions and an addendum formalizing vehicle sharing with the Verona Board of Education (to address an upcoming one-week repair of the senior bus and to codify insurance and maintenance responsibilities). Administration explained that the formal agreement clarifies past informal borrowing practices.
The council also agreed to introduce an ordinance adding Municipal Lot 3 (the Lakeside Avenue lot) to the code with permit-only parking and necessary signage. The item will return for formal introduction at the next meeting.
