Loganville council debates mayor and council pay adjustment; staff to run numbers and advertise if pursued

Keith, speaking for the finance committee, said any change to compensation would be governed by Georgia law and would not take effect until the next set of officers are seated (January 2028). He asked staff to help the finance committee prepare numbers and to comply with required advertising should council choose to pursue a change.
"If y'all are going to raise your salaries, Miss Patty's correct that your salaries would not be raised. The 2028 seated council's salaries, it would take effect then," Keith said. Several councilmembers said they want staff and the finance committee to assemble comparative data, propose options (including equalizing council pay versus maintaining a mayoral premium) and present recommended ad language so the council can act in time for advertising deadlines.
Council members also discussed that the council has not received a pay adjustment for 14 years and that a COLA-based adjustment would raise the stipend toward $735 annually from $500 under simple calculations presented in the meeting. No formal motion to change compensation was taken; members asked for staff and the finance committee to return with concrete proposal(s).
