Northville celebrates spring state qualifiers and school records across multiple sports

The Northville Public Schools Board of Education held a spring‑sports recognition ceremony, honoring teams and athletes who earned conference, district and state distinctions during the 2026 spring season.

Athletic director Brian Smolinski introduced coaches and the board recognized eight state‑qualifying championship teams. Baseball coaches noted a district title (fifth consecutive), a late‑season pitching performance that allowed only two runs across 24 postseason innings and four seniors signing with collegiate programs. Track and field coaches highlighted long conference streaks (girls KLAA Division 12 straight years; boys multiple‑year runs) and school records, including Brandon Cloud’s state two‑mile title (9:01). Rowing reported Midwest and state success and the program’s first college‑qualifying eight at nationals.

Softball coach celebrated a school‑record 35–5 season, a first regional title since 2012 and pitcher Mary Gugala’s milestone statistics (32–3 this year; career 91–15; 860 career strikeouts), noting her commitment to Wayne State. Girls tennis represented the district with an undefeated season and back‑to‑back state championships; the team posted a cumulative GPA of 3.85.

Board members praised the athletes’ academic and community involvement — coaches cited camps, Miracle League participation, and community events — and thanked families, coaches and staff for supporting student achievement both on the field and in the classroom.
