Oneida County Solid Waste Committee approves credit accounts, discusses late‑fee policy amid slow payments

The Oneida County Solid Waste Committee on June 22 approved credit account applications for Northwoods Hauling, Eleet Custom Carpentry and Renkas Renovations and discussed options to address overdue accounts after staff reported slow payments from War Transport and a shutoff for the Whits End account.
Solid Waste Director Lisa Bauknecht said new accounts are initially assigned a $500 credit limit that can be adjusted over time and that applicants provide references as part of the review. "New accounts are initially assigned a $500 credit limit," Bauknecht said. The committee approved all three credit applications (motion by Kyle Timmons, second by Kyle Kilbourn), with the motion recorded as "all ayes."
Bauknecht said accounts receivable are closely monitored but noted War Transport has been slow to pay and the Whits End account has been shut down for nonpayment. Committee member Kyle Timmons asked whether late fees are being assessed; Bauknecht said no. Timmons suggested implementing a 2–3% late fee on accounts 30 days past due, while Chairman Ted Cushing proposed a 5% fee for accounts 90 days past due. Cushing recommended the department develop a late‑fee policy for committee review at the next meeting; if approved, the policy would be implemented and reflected on future statements.
The committee did not adopt a late‑fee policy at this meeting but directed staff to develop a proposed policy for consideration.
