At a March 25 work session, Chattahoochee County officials reviewed road grant opportunities, cemetery committee bylaws, and proposed quarterly budget amendments ahead of the April 1 regular meeting.
County Manager Thomas Weaver reported the county received a local road assistance grant that supplements the LMIG award and will allow additional road repairs; he said McGlaun Road and half of Smith Road were previously resurfaced with No. 7 stone in 2017 and will need work again, and that spot repairs on Liberty Hill Road and Wells Street were rebuilt with riprap. Weaver also said the 2025 SPLOST account has begun receiving receipts and that routine landfill repairs and building maintenance (including installing a new AC unit) were completed.
Work-session discussion assigned the county attorney and Community Development staff to finalize cemetery committee term definitions and to help the Planning & Zoning board clarify conditional-use permit procedures; Attorney Bin Minter will attend the Planning & Zoning meeting on March 27 to advise. Recreation director Mordie Askew and Community Development staff Samantha Hedgecoke reviewed upcoming programming and events, including a rabies clinic April 5, 4-H activities and a community car show.
Weaver outlined proposed quarterly amendments that will be brought to the April 1 meeting, totaling roughly $294,725 from reserves. The amendments include unbudgeted property tax reimbursements, adjustments to EMS salaries, prisoner housing costs, higher legal services spending driven by pending litigation, library budget corrections, and a coroner salary correction. The manager said the amendments will be presented at the next regular meeting for formal action.
Other business: the work session placed a tax-refund request from Tracy Chiodo and the Friendship Road LMIG bid-packet review on the April 1 agenda; Friendship Road bidding was tabled pending technical review. Chairman Charles Coffey raised concerns about overuse of nondisclosure in public records (Q-Public) and urged commissioners to limit withholding to statutory exceptions such as law-enforcement-sensitive matters.
The session adjourned at 9:44 a.m. Items discussed will be returned to the regular meeting agenda on April 1 for vote where applicable.
