City staff and a municipal finance consultant briefed the Maple Lake City Council work session on financing options for the 2026 Street Improvement Project and reviewed the city's existing bond structure.
Interim City Administrator Cathy Reynolds and Northland Public Finance consultant George Eilertson presented the options. Council discussed the possibility of delaying the project for one year and agreed to make a decision after bids are received and are scheduled to be considered at the March 17 council meeting.
Why it matters: the structure and timing of bond issuance affect the city’s debt service, tax impacts and the scheduling of construction work. Councilors signaled that they wanted to see actual bid results before finalizing whether the project proceeds in 2026.
Next steps: city staff will present bid results and a financing recommendation at the March 17 council meeting for a formal decision.
