Blakely Council adopts police hiring rule, bans motorized bicycles on borough property and approves bills

Alco Jr., seconded by Joseph Munley) and an amendment to the Blakely Borough Electric Ordinance (motion by Jeffrey Cruciani, seconded by Michael Henzes); both motions carried unanimously among members present.
In public comment and subsequent action, the council passed Ordinance 3 of 2026 prohibiting the use of motorized bicycles, scooters and similar devices on borough-owned property. Councilman Michael Henzes moved the measure; Councilman Jeffrey Cruciani seconded and the motion carried with all present voting in favor. Secretary Christopher R. Paone clarified during comment that the ordinance bans battery- or engine-driven bikes and scooters on borough property.
On financial business the finance committee recommended payment of presented bills. Council approved General Payable of $199,284.07 and Electric Payable of $29,407.73. The Treasurer’s report and the Mine Cave Commission report (all mine openings secure as of May 18) were accepted by motion.
Department reports included the police department placing a new Chevy Tahoe K9 unit into service and the Electric Department beginning an inventory of main grid components and replacing the circuit recloser in front of the community center; the borough announced it will present a monthly report of electric repairs, replacements and upgrades beginning next month. The 2026 Blakely Borough paving project was reported completed.
Several routine motions (minutes acceptance, bill payments, reports) were recorded as unanimous among members present; minutes note one member absent during roll call (Kevin Swift). The council adjourned after completing the listed business.
