Representatives of the Christie House Historical Society described the museum’s volunteer support and maintenance needs and asked the council for a $4,000 operating donation. The Christie House, which the presenters said is owned by the City of Long Prairie and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, preserves original furnishings and is run by a board funded largely by donations and volunteers.
Speakers told the council volunteers contribute an estimated 500 hours per year and raised a long‑term maintenance concern: replacing specialty shingles to preserve the house’s historic character could cost about $130,000. The group asked the city for a modest operating contribution to help cover routine maintenance.
Council Member JoAnn Schroeder moved to donate $4,000 to the Christie House Historical Society for maintenance and operations; Council Member Lilah Gripne seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
The council motion and vote approve the $4,000 payment as a recurring small operating supplement; council members and staff discussed marketing help and tour‑scheduling support from EDA staff as a non‑monetary complement to the donation.
