County opts to re-advertise truck and sprayer bids after no local responses; may use state bid as fallback

Brown County public works staff told commissioners the county received no bids on the advertised 4x4 chassis/flatbed truck procurement and presented a state-contract alternative through Lamb Mo Motors at roughly $66,000–$69,000 for an 18,000 lb gross vehicle weight chassis (diesel), exclusive of a flatbed and sprayer mounting.
Chris Heman, the department supervisor discussing the item, said the county also solicited skid-sprayer quotes from local vendors; those quotes ranged from about $21,000–$22,000 for most vendors up to a higher quote near $31,000 from the highest bidder. Staff recommended re-advertising locally and contacting dealers who may match the state bid price; commissioners agreed and moved to re-bid the truck procurement so staff can pursue lower local pricing and confirm delivery times.
Why it matters: the county needs a functional chassis and flatbed to mount a sprayer used in seasonal operations. Staff said a locally assembled skid might be significantly cheaper than buying a packaged unit, but delivery timing and dealer availability are factors in choosing procurement approach.
Commissioners instructed staff to re-advertise the bid and to reach out directly to local dealers (Pearsons and others) to determine whether they will match state contract pricing; a motion to delay award and re-open bidding passed by voice vote.
