Long Prairie council approves new plow truck purchase, parade route and personnel actions

At its Nov. 20 meeting the council approved the Bright Lights Parade route and parking restrictions, accepted a Freightliner 114SD plus plow equipment purchase for $274,320.01 (under budget), approved completion of Officer Gothier's probation and appointed Dan Bebault to the HRA; a public hearing on a utility easement vacation was set for Dec. 18.
The Long Prairie City Council approved several administrative items at its Nov. 20 meeting, including parade logistics, a capital equipment purchase and personnel actions.
The council unanimously approved the Bright Lights Parade route for Nov. 24 after a presentation by Luan Thomas-Brunkhorst and safety discussion with Police Chief Ryan Hanson. The council authorized no parking on the north side of Central Avenue and parallel parking on the south side to provide safer viewing and reduce obstructive diagonal parking.
Administrator Ted Gray presented two truck quotes and a plow equipment quote: a Freightliner 114SD priced at $124,078.01 and a Western Star 47X at $137,197.99; Tow Master Truck Equipment quoted $150,242.00 for plow components. The council approved purchasing the Freightliner 114SD with the Tow Master equipment for a total of $274,320.01, which Gray said is $11,279.99 under the 2023 budgeted amount of $285,600.
During new business the council approved the completion of Officer Gothier’s six-month probationary period and appointed Dan Bebault to the office of Commissioner of the Housing and Redevelopment Authority of Long Prairie; motions were recorded as carried unanimously. The council also approved a resolution calling for a public hearing on a petition by DW Jones Inc. to vacate utility easements in the SW Industrial Park; the hearing was set for Dec. 18, 2023 and staff were directed to provide legally required notice.
