The Long Prairie City Council on Nov. 20 adopted Resolution No. 23-11-20-27 supporting the city’s pursuit of Local Road Improvement Program (LRIP) funding from the Minnesota Department of Transportation for rehabilitation of 1st Street South between 6th Avenue South and 8th Avenue South and work on 8th Avenue South between U.S. 71 and 1st Street South.
City Administrator Ted Gray told the council the existing pavement is in poor condition, that paving portions of 1st Street South would address flooding and connectivity problems and that the work would connect a high-employment commercial district to the trunk highway system. The resolution notes LRIP grants can make up to $1.5 million available for eligible projects and that non-State Aid cities must secure a county sponsor and the county board's support to apply.
The resolution also sets proposed construction in 2025 and includes a city commitment to pay costs not covered by LRIP funding and to meet program requirements and schedule. Council member Jim Kreemer moved to approve the resolution; Council member Clint Krueger seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
