Long Prairie council adopts $1.13 million tax levy, sets Jan. 2 hearing on street vacations and accepts donations

On new business, the council approved Resolution #23‑12‑04‑31 to set a public hearing on Jan. 2, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. in City Hall to consider vacating street and alleyway portions between Marquette Street, 2nd Ave NE and 4th Ave NE (portions of Nicollet Street and Aldrich Street). The City Administrator/Clerk was directed to provide published, posted and mailed notice as required by Minnesota law (Minn. Stat. § 412.851 is cited in the resolution text).
The council reviewed and approved the advertisement for a part‑time ice‑rink maintenance employee to monitor and maintain the Soldiers Field outdoor rink — duties include snow removal, Mini‑Zamboni operation and warming‑house upkeep — with a starting wage of $15.00 per hour.
Jim Kreemer raised a complaint received from a resident, Amanda Hinson, about early‑morning noise on R‑Way; through discussion the council concluded the activity appears related to garbage collection work and not routine operations of R‑Way. The meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
