Commission approves $275,300 task order for MLK Recreation Center design

The Fernandina Beach City Commission on April 7 approved a task order with Half & Associates to complete final design work for the MLK Recreation Center redesign.
City staff presented Resolution 2026-55, saying the task order covers final design and associated budget transfers to move the project to the next phase. City Manager/Staff and consultant representatives described a goal of completing design work this summer so the project could be bid in late summer or early fall.
"The total project cost is $275,300," City staff said when outlining the scope and funding lines for the work.
Commissioners asked procedural questions about the consultant team and whether tree preservation and survey work would be included; staff confirmed Mansey & Drake will perform an additional survey that includes tree locations. A commissioner emphasized preserving large oaks in the northeast corner of the site where possible.
A motion to approve the task order was made, seconded, and approved by a 5–0 vote. Staff said the design phase will proceed with the intent to return with a bid package later this year.
