The Chambersburg Area School District board approved a contract to engage Massaro Construction Services to provide comprehensive preconstruction and construction management services for the district’s Green Village Elementary and Green Village Intermediate projects and other related school construction work.
Director of Facilities Varner told the board the firm was selected for the scale and depth of resources it can commit: a team of about 12 full- and part-time professionals (including project managers, site managers, a safety director and MEP management). Administration said the fee is approximately 1% of the project budget and emphasized the importance of outside expertise given the projects’ size and complexity.
Board members asked about references and the selection process; administration confirmed reference checks and conversations with other districts currently using Massaro. The motion to approve was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote.
Administration and the board said the construction manager will serve as an extension of district staff through planning, bidding, construction and closeout phases.
