Jeffrey Biggers, general manager of the Fernandina Beach Golf Club, reported to the advisory committee on March 10 that February golf revenues were up about 20% compared with the prior year, driven by modest rate increases, a reopened driving range and greater membership.
"Golf revenues were up 20% from last February," Biggers said, adding that rounds were near last year’s level but revenue improved through rate changes and new services such as lessons and an active driving range.
Biggers reviewed maintenance and capital items: he said the golf club has awarded an irrigation‑control contract to a vendor (Hunter Irrigation) and is seeking installation quotes, and that staff are resolving a radio‑control issue on the north well with vendors. He characterized the irrigation upgrade as significant because the last replacement occurred in about 2015–2016.
He also described winter cleanup (debris removal and stump removal), tree pruning, and membership growth (about 173 members, up from roughly 140–165 in prior months). The club reported recent tournament revenue (the Fernandina Beach Collegiate Tournament generated roughly $16,000) and promoted a bar‑reopening event on March 19 to showcase recent bar renovations.
Members suggested post‑event surveys of tournament organizers to capture feedback and improve future events. Biggers said marketing has focused on weekly social posts and a March 1 newsletter.
What’s next: the golf club will proceed with irrigation installation quotes, finalize bar‑opening event plans and continue routine course maintenance and marketing.
