Chase County to review ambulance administrator duties; commissioners cancel $451.99 ambulance debt

Chairman Kurt Bernhardt said the board would review the scope and compensation for the county ambulance administrator after Ambulance Administrator Julie Sharp and Treasurer Rebecca Bernard reported that the workload had exceeded original expectations.

Julie Sharp and Rebecca Bernard told commissioners that reporting, licensure and other administrative work “have been more time consuming than originally anticipated,” and asked the board to clarify which responsibilities remain with the Clerk’s office and which fall to the administrator. Bernhardt asked Sharp to prepare a written list of duties; the board will review the list at its next meeting and decide whether additional compensation is necessary.

Separately during the same meeting, the board approved Resolution 2026‑8 to cancel an ambulance account balance of $451.99 because the claim was determined to be beyond the statute of limitations. Chairman Bernhardt moved for adoption; Commissioner Billie Muehlenkamp seconded. Vote: Muehlenkamp — yes; Jacci Brown — absent; Bernhardt — yes. The motion carried.

The meeting record notes that the Clerk’s office had originally been intended to handle ambulance expenditures while other duties would be performed by the ambulance administrator; any change to that arrangement will be made only after the board reviews Sharp’s written duties list at a future meeting.

The board did not set a deadline for the administrator’s duties list at the meeting. The next meeting is expected to include further review of the ambulance administrator’s workload and any compensation changes.
