Winfield council reviews proposed changes to animal ordinance; formal ordinance scheduled for Feb. 12

At its Jan. 8 meeting the Winfield City Council reviewed proposed changes to the city’s animal ordinance (Chapter 55) and directed staff to prepare an ordinance for formal consideration at the council’s Feb. 12 meeting.
Council members discussed proposed amendments to Section 55.06 (animals at large), Section 55.13 (allowing use of live traps) and Section 55.16 (feeding animals at large). The minutes record that the council will receive the proposed language as an ordinance change at the Feb. 12 meeting, at which time the council may vote on formal adoption.
The meeting also included several routine old-business updates: staff is awaiting a response from Alliant Energy’s engineer about a swimming pool light; the city clerk is preparing a letter to the trailer park owner about an unresolved issue; Public Works staff and Scott Roen will coordinate on procedures for junk/abandoned vehicles; and a meeting will be scheduled with a homeowner regarding a water service line to a garage. Councilmember Jennifer Lemke publicly thanked Mayor Willie Bender for his service and efforts outside council meetings. The meeting adjourned at 6:48 p.m.
The council’s review does not itself change city code; the minutes indicate the proposed edits will be brought forward as an ordinance at the Feb. 12 meeting for further action.
