The Winfield City Council approved an outdoor service-area liquor license for the Welcome Inn during Crooked Creek Days after reviewing a submitted site drawing and raising questions about notification of nearby businesses.
Council members approved the license on a motion by Jennifer Lemke, seconded by Randy Redlinger; the vote was 3–2, with David Pieart and Matt Hernandez recorded as the opposing votes. Council discussion included whether the owners of nearby El Mariachi had been notified about the fenced-off outdoor area for the event.
The council also approved event logistics for Crooked Creek Days on a separate motion by Jennifer Lemke, seconded by Matt Hernandez. That approval covered street closures (E. & W. Ash, E. & W. Elm, the parade route and the 100 block of N. Locust), city assistance handling trash for fireworks using a dump truck and/or trailer, and adjusted pool hours (closing at 5 p.m. Friday and normal hours Saturday and Sunday). That motion passed unanimously.
City officials did not announce additional conditions on the liquor license or provide a public timetable for notifying adjacent businesses. The council’s approvals allow the Welcome Inn and city services to proceed as planned for the festival.
