Winthrop council sets budget hearing, approves wages and event permits, and hires new city attorney

Council approved Resolution 26-05 (M/S/C White, Kelchen) setting a public hearing on the proposed budget for Wednesday, April 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Winthrop City Hall. The council then approved Resolution 26-06 setting wages for city employees for FY26-27 (M/S/C Kelchen, Myers) and Resolution 26-07 setting pool wages effective May 1, 2026 (M/S/C Cook, Loughren); all votes were recorded as "All ayes."
The council approved Resolution 26-08 (M/S/C Loughren, Kelchen) to close Madison Street from Second to Fourth Street for the Winthrop C & C Club’s car show on June 20, 9:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m., and approved a lease with the Winthrop C & C Club to allow the club to retain land under their park structures at no charge provided the club carry liability insurance (M/S/C Kelchen, White). Both measures passed unanimously.
The council also approved hiring Heather Prendergast as the city’s new attorney (M/S/C Loughren, Myers).
