At its Oct. 1 meeting the Winthrop City Council heard from Gary McElroy about a tree-pile site and a related development proposal and agreed on several next steps. Councilors approved a motion directing staff to contact the city attorney about the process and fees for pursuing abandoned-property actions; the minutes state the development will provide funds to cover attorney fees. The council also agreed the developer will provide a sign for the site, that a copy of the sign will be uploaded to the city’s website, and that notice of the site will appear on utility bills.
Council discussed a proposed splash pad; the minutes record discussion but no formal decision. Council clarified that fire-department garage doors are under Fire Department jurisdiction and noted that concrete grinding at the shelter is complete. A north window leak was reported as unresolved. A storage container was discussed and classified as a structure under the Restricted Residence ordinance; that item was tabled until next month for further consideration. The meeting adjourned at 7:24 p.m.
