Winfield council approves several routine measures, begins sale process for city-owned property
Summary
At its Oct. 16 meeting the Winfield City Council unanimously approved a 28E recreation agreement with WMU, established a no-parking zone near the school, adopted Ordinance 360 on handicap parking (second/third readings waived), approved a laptop purchase, set pool pass gift-certificate rates, and directed staff to solicit additional tractor quotes and begin the bid process to sell 306 E. Ash St.
The Winfield City Council on Oct. 16 approved a range of routine items and directed staff on next steps for several administrative matters.
On motions carried unanimously, the council approved a 28E agreement among the city, WMU rec league and WMU school; removed parking spaces and added no-parking signage on West Central Avenue between the school parking lot entrance and exit; and adopted Ordinance 360 establishing handicap parking provisions and waiving the second and third readings. The council also approved a laptop and Microsoft Office purchase and set pool pass gift-certificate rates at $150 for a family pass and $75 for an individual pass.
Regarding equipment procurement, two tractor quotes (from Sinclair and J. J. Nichting) were received. JR Herrick was asked to obtain additional quotes, including options for tractors that are one model year older, before council takes further action.
The council noted that the city now owns 306 E. Ash Street and directed City Clerk Angie Oepping to begin developing the bid process to sell the property; Oepping will present proposed bidder stipulations at the November meeting. In old business the council discussed standing structure issues remaining after demolition and a camper at 202 and 204 E. Pearl Street; council did not take further action during this session.
Mayor Willie Bender thanked Pilot Grove Savings Bank for donating the building at 120 S. Locust Street to house the new Winfield Public Library and extended good wishes to WMU’s football, volleyball and cross-country teams as they enter postseason play. The meeting adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
