Dayton council adopts driveway hard‑surface amendment; routine dockets approved unanimously

The Dayton Town Council voted May 19 to amend local driveway construction rules, removing gravel as an acceptable hard surface and specifying permitted materials. The ordinance passed after a motion by Town Clerk‑Treasurer Marc Buhrmester and a second by council member Steve Schuhle; Mike Harris, Steve Schuhle, Marc Buhrmester and Carla Snodgrass voted yes and Rocky Richards abstained.
Council also handled routine administrative business: the allowance docket and claims docket were approved unanimously after motions by Marc Buhrmester and seconds by Steve Schuhle. The council unanimously accepted appropriations, bank reconciliations, fund and revenue reports and approved the previous meeting minutes.
In other business, the Area Plan representative reported on Ordinance 2026‑14, saying it largely applies to large solar farms typically regulated at the county level; the council accepted that ordinance and the report unanimously. The police report noted two vacant properties requiring maintenance and a tax lien filed to recover costs that staff said needs updating to include additional incurred costs. Council declared surplus property after a motion by Steve Schuhle that passed unanimously.
A planned presentation by Chris Limiac of BF&S on the Heartland Estates development plan was postponed to the June meeting to allow finalization of utility service agreements. Town Attorney Patrick Jones said he will bring an update on a county road swap involving Dayton Road South and part of E375S at the June meeting. The council also scheduled a public hearing on a billboard for June 16 at 7:00 p.m., and public comment on a proposed easement and ditch was tabled until June.
The meeting closed with a council reminder about Dumpster Day on May 30.
