Town manager reports paving quote, hydrant maintenance, Dumpster Day; employee praised for police department repairs

Kurt Deltzer told the board the 2026 hydrant maintenance and flushing has not yet been scheduled but staff expects to assign a date soon. Staff is still waiting on quotes for a generator hook-up. Deltzer also reported that contractor FJF indicated they expect to be on site next week if they do not receive other service calls.
On street work, Deltzer provided bids from a paving company: $5,200 to crack-seal Dayton Road from the edge of the concrete pavement on U.S. 38 to the county’s section of Dayton Road, and a separate mill-and-pave quote of $70,000 for that same stretch. The board determined it could not act without the paving company’s full set of quotes, including one for the county-maintained portion; members deferred any decision pending receipt of the remaining quotes.
Staff announced Dumpster Day will be held May 30, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
As an add-on to the Town Manager’s report, Marshall Taylor publicly commended Kurt Deltzer for installing new flooring and painting the police department lobby. Taylor said the work saved the department approximately $3,000; council members expressed appreciation. The meeting minutes do not include documentary verification of the savings figure.
The board had no items under New Business or Old Business and recorded no public comments. The meeting adjourned after the reports. Staff will return with additional quotes and findings from the valve search when available.
