At its Feb. 10 meeting, the Royalton City Council handled a slate of routine municipal business, approving personnel changes, small public‑works expenditures, event dates and routine policy updates.
Personnel: The council approved the resignation/retirement of Gene Binkley after 35 years of service to the Fire & Rescue organization; the motion was moved by Verley and seconded by Lanners and carried unanimously.
Appointments and administration: The council approved Planning & Zoning officers — Gregory Gallus as chairperson, Scott Kalis as vice chairperson and Lee Obermiller as secretary — following Gallus’s update on a rezoning inquiry to property owner Rob Just. Administrator Rian Hofstad provided updates on open city office items.
Public works and purchases: Public Works Supervisor Tom Kalis updated the council on ongoing items. The council approved materials to repair the roof on Well #2 (motion by Sowada); approved an estimated quote of approximately $3,700 from Thein Well for Well #3 (motion by Verley); and authorized up to $1,200 to purchase additional collapsible picnic tables for the splash park (motion by Verley). All motions passed with all members voting aye.
Events, finance and policy: Councilor Verley set the City Wide Garage Sale for Saturday, May 9, 2026. The council approved payment of vouchers 40747–40797 totaling $58,361.10 (motion by Lanners) and approved an updated Purchasing Policy as presented (motion by Sowada). The council also discussed tentative city clean‑up/recycling days (proposed May 14 and May 16, 2026) tied to Morrison County recycling grants and noted an upcoming Morrison County Weed Inspector meeting on March 18, 2026.
Board logistics and adjournment: Cimenski requested expanded blue paint for disability parking in front of the post office; Weiss‑Pesta announced a mayor’s meeting Feb. 18 in the council chambers. The council adjourned at 7:40 p.m. on a motion by Verley.
