The North Mankato City Council on Dec. 16 authorized staff to pursue federal funding for planned improvements at the Highway 169/Webster Avenue area.
Public Works Director Arnold said Res. No. 116-24 authorizes an application for Surface Transportation Program (STP - Small Urban) funds for a 2027 U.S. Trunk Highway 169 project (MnDOT SP 5212-42 and 0713-81) to address traffic delays and pedestrian safety at the Webster Avenue/Highway 169 intersection and support reconstruction of Range Street and North River Drive frontage roads. The City would participate in required local funding and, if awarded, oversee design, construction and maintenance under a cooperative agreement with MnDOT.
Arnold also described Res. No. 117-24, supporting a Transportation Alternatives funding application for non-motorized safety and access to local trails and businesses as part of the broader project; North Mankato would act as the sponsoring agency and commit to long-term operation and maintenance of federally funded facilities. Both resolutions passed unanimously (Res. No. 116-24 moved by Council Member Steiner; Res. No. 117-24 moved by Council Member Steiner).
