Parks and Recreation Director Sky Smothers presented a request from the Winterset Cemetery Association asking the city to allow the association to assume responsibility for the Winterset Cemetery beginning Jan. 1, 2027. Smothers said the association requested the change and that the Parks and Recreation Board recommended approval.
Smothers told the council the request carries an estimated $74,000 increase to this year’s budget and would include assumption of cemetery assets. A letter from the association was provided to council by email and referenced during discussion. Attorney Rosien was identified as the person who will prepare a formal resolution for the council to consider as a formal acceptance of the transfer.
Council did not take a formal vote on the transfer during the March 16 meeting; the item was presented for consideration and a future resolution was indicated by the city attorney’s forthcoming paperwork.
