Decatur council accepts CVET/FIT funds into general fund; departmental updates note student outreach, safety program reach and leaf pick-up status

Clerk-Treasurer Eran Hackman reviewed changes to CVET/FIT distribution procedures resulting from recent Indiana legislation and recommended leaving the distributions in the city's general fund, which would require no further Council action. Tyler Fullenkamp moved to accept Hackman's recommendation and Jenny Bowers-Shultz seconded; the motion was adopted.
Hackman also reported that the city's 2026 budget had been approved by the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance with a few minor changes.
Department heads provided brief updates. Police Chief Kevin Gerber said Bellmont High School's annual career fair generated notable student interest in law enforcement careers. Fire Chief Jeff Sheets reported that the Survive Alive House program, created in 2000, has served an estimated 11,000 fourth-grade students. Community Coordinator Jamie Gephart noted downtown events for the coming weekend, including the Christmas Tree Lighting. Operations Superintendent Matt Schultz said leaf pick-up is under way and estimated about three weeks remain.
Council approved payment of the claims presented and then adjourned at 6:58 p.m.
