Board denies solar company access to county ditches, approves underground fiber permit

Calhoun/Sac County Engineer Nick Buse told the Board of Supervisors that a solar company requested permission to run its transmission lines in a county ditch. The board reached a consensus to deny granting private companies access to county ditches, citing the county’s policy of not allowing such access.
Separately, on a motion by Scott Becker seconded by Scott Jacobs, the board approved Underground Permit 4-2024 for Palmer Mutual Telephone Company to install buried fiber from the Sac County line at 160th & Quartz Avenue S to 200th Street and west to Twin Lakes Road. The motion carried unanimously.
Mike Moeller, Assistant to the Engineer and the county’s Safety Officer/Zoning and Flood Plain Administrator, also reported that Katherine Linder resigned as a zoning commissioner effective Aug. 13, 2024, creating a vacancy on the commission.
