Council approves Rodeo Dance permit and alcohol service, and modifies Fiesta street closures

The Lenox City Council approved a special-event permit for the Dally Post Rodeo Dance scheduled for July 27, 2024, and separately approved an amendment to the Dally Post alcohol license to add outdoor service for that event. Both motions carried with votes recorded as "all ayes" (motion to approve the permit by Peterson, second by Tull; motion to amend the alcohol license by Peterson, second by Hodges).
The council also reviewed an application from Lenox Hispanic Heritage for a Fiesta celebration on Sept. 14. The original request proposed closing Main Street from Michigan to Temple Street and Ohio Street from Main Street to Walnut Street. Council members expressed concern that closing Main Street between Michigan and Ohio would block bank drive-through windows on a Saturday and limit residential access. The council offered alternative closures — Main Street from Temple to Illinois or Temple Street from Main Street to Walnut — and approved the event with the adjusted street-closure plan (motion by Hodges, second by Tull).
Council members recorded no conditions beyond the modified closure locations; event organizers will proceed under the approved terms and any required permits.
