Commissioners voted on June 22 to recommend that the City Council pursue an application for the Transformative Climate Communities (TCC) Round 6 grant program. Staff explained the program structure to the Sustainability Commission and said each award in the round can be roughly $27.5 million; the formal application is due Sept. 30, 2026 and the pre-application materials are due June 30, 2026.
A commissioner disclosed a potential conflict of interest and recused from the vote, stating they are the executive director of EcoVista 360, a nonprofit working on outreach in the same project geography and potentially a partner for workforce or community engagement activities. The commissioner remained for the discussion but did not participate in the vote.
Staff said the city has technical-assistance opportunities from partners that were previously funded by TCC and described early outreach to workforce-development organizations and community-based groups. Staff also said the city will seek letters of support and partner commitments to strengthen an application; the vice chair's prior experience with a funded jurisdiction was cited as a resource to improve competitiveness.
A motion to recommend that the city submit a TCC Round 6 application to City Council was made, seconded and carried by the commission. Staff emphasized that City Council approval is still required for any formal application the city makes, and staff will bring follow-up materials and timelines for City Council consideration.
